It's all fun and games ...

It's so true.
Well, he did it!  Rollin had his surgery this morning and handled it like a champ.  (He is currently passed out due to a high dosage of pain killers, but no less a champ.)  He wore that shirt to surgery today.  Everyone got quite the kick out of it.  The doctor asked if he had gotten it specifically for today, but strangely enough I bought that for him several years ago!  Who knew it would come in handy?

I thought I'd give a little play-by-play of how our day at the hospital went!  We arrived around 6:45 am (yes, slightly late) and checked in.  We only had to wait a few minutes before Rollin and I went back for him to get ready.  He got to put on the ever fashion-forward hospital gowns and was placed on a bed.  The nurses that asked questions and hooked him up were really nice.  Especially the older nurse, Brenda, who was very fond of Rollin's legs (which she mentioned several times).  Rollin didn't hesitate to say, "Yep, 'Best Legs Bearden High School 2001'!"  He can entertain in any situation.  Brenda loved it.  "We nurses don't get many perks, so we take 'em wherever we can get 'em."
Waiting for surgery.
As expected, Rollin didn't do too well with the I.V.  They had to lay him down, put a cool washcloth on his face and fan him a little so he didn't throw up or pass out.  "Well, you're getting the five star treatment today, aren't you?" one of the nurses said.  She looked at his chart and goes, "Ahh, Prince.  Makes sense now."  He told her to make sure I realized that was all necessary for his recovery.  Milking it a little?  I think so.

Then, around 8:00, he went back for surgery.  It was actually 30 minutes earlier than scheduled.  That never happens in a hospital!  Just one of the many things that blessed our time there.  Rollin's mom and I were joined by Laura Jones and Tommy Campbell (from Central Baptist Bearden) in the waiting area.  We had some really great conversation as we waited to hear that Rollin was awake and recovering.  The whole surgery lasted about an hour from start to finish and it went very smoothly!  They updated me on this phone I had to wear around my neck (very attractive) and the doctor came out to talk to us around 10:15.
Mommy wishing her son good luck!
He basically explained to us that it looked like the tumor was just in the testicle and that Rollin's CT scan didn't show cancer anywhere else in his body!  So thank you, prayer warriors!  This was the best news we could possibly hear!  It will take 3-5 days before the tumor is evaluated/biopsied/checked out, so we don't know exactly what stage this was in, but Rollin meets with the doctor again next Tuesday to discuss treatment.

We can't thank you enough for your prayers.  We felt such a peace about everything, and I know that was thanks to you!  So we ask that you continue to pray, this time for Rollin's recovery (he is in a lot of pain) and then preparation for the treatment.  We have felt so loved today, and are forever grateful for a merciful God and blessed friends and family!
