"Real life is for March"
Today is Leap Day! Of course that meant today was going to have to be strange, and it most certainly was. Even the weather is weird. Rollin quite enjoyed today, though, and the celebration of Leap Day William!
Today was Rollin's first appointment with the radiologist. The appointment was at the Thompson Cancer Survival Center with Dr. McDonald (and unfortunately, he doesn't still have the awesome 'stache he has in the picture). It was a long appointment of filling out paperwork and waiting, but the staff was so friendly. When people would come in for their treatments, the ladies at the front desk knew them all by name. And when the nurses would come get them, they too knew their names. The world of cancer treatment is a new one for us, but we're finding people are very nice so far!
We talked with the nurse ("Bev") and then Dr. McDonald. They explained that Rollin's radiation will be every Monday - Friday for four weeks. When he goes in for the treatment, though, it's over in about 10 minutes. They said this is a very mild amount. Scary to think what a large amount of radiation is ...
Side effects mostly included nausea and fatigue. The staff seemed confident that this is a very easily treatable case and said not to expect harsh side effects. Rollin goes back next Wednesday for his initial scans of the area they will radiate (is that how you say it?). Then it will take them about a week to determine exactly what the treatment will look like. So, in about two weeks the treatment will begin. Somewhere around the second week of March. "Beware the Ides of March." Hmm. Hopefully before then!
Everyone we've talked to still seems very optimistic and our encounters with the people at Thompson were great. Thanks to everyone for remembering us in prayer as we still have merciful strength to face whatever comes our way! God is so good and we still have felt so blessed in the midst of this. (Quick shout out to Rollin's parents for watching Ellie as we go to all these appointments!)
Stay safe out there and Happy Leap Day! :)
Hoping Leap Day William will give him some candy! |

The folks at Thompson Cancer are fantastic. Good luck to my funny neighbor.
